Before you begin with the house contractors-and all the dust, the noise and mess, the late deliveries, missed deadlines, and the headaches-gather the following: a black candle for protection, a green candle for money, and a yellow candle for success. Anoint the candles with a dab of patchouli oil. Burn the candles and say:

To change this house and make it mine,
To get the job done in reasonable time,
For weather fair and no cost overrun,
May it be as I envision when it's finally done!
