This festival was originally held as a solstice ritual to awaken the dragon gods of the river. Construct paper boats-one for each wish. Draw or paste an image of a dragon on the side of your wish boat. By painting in the pupil in the eye of your dragon, you are awakening him. This is a good time to think of what you want to offer the dragon in your wish boat. A lit votive candle, a small stone, a seed pearl, or a piece of cake are all worthy offerings.
