Halcyon Days

Color of the day:  Gray
Incense of the day:  Sage

On this final Saturday of 2013, we note the last of the halcyon days of winter. Said to begin every December fourteenth and lasting for two weeks, this time is believed to have brought about by the alcyon, or kingfisher, bird, which nests on the ocean and requires calm seas to hatch its young.
The last two weeks in December have evolved into celebratory times in many belief systems; therefore halcyon days bode well for travel. Whether heading for home or out to visit loved ones, as you travel on this day offer up a spell of your own or use this simple chant:

"Through air,
Over water,
On earth,
Toward home fires,
Spirits guide and shield me to my destination gained."
