Respect for the Aged Day

Color of the day:  White
Incense of the day:  Ginger

This is a national holiday in Japan to honor elderly people. Japan has the world's longest life expectancy, and the wisdom of the elders is highly regarded. On this day, they are appreciated for their contributions to society, and their presence is valued in the home and the entire community. Use today to honor the elders in your life, and take a moment to realize that someday you will be among that group.
Amulets to protect the wearer are commonly given on this day. In addition, you may wish to make one of these for an elderly person in your life (or yourself). Mix dried mullein, a dried peach pit or wood from a peach tree, and dried vervain in a white or red bag. These herbs are traditionally used to promote longevity, youth, and health. Carry the pouch with you or give it as a gift.
