POSTED UNDER Summer, Sun

Sunny Firestarters

Color of the day:  Orange
Incense of the day:  Almond

In the height of summer, the sun burns hot overhead. This season relates to the element of fire and the time of midday. It is all about light and heat.

Magic lets us capture this energy, so we can use it as needed in times of darkness and cold. To do this, make some firestarters. Take twigs or splits of wood about as thick as your thumb and as long as your hand. Carefully use a knife to make notches so curls of wood stick out. Now melt some wax scraps in a double boiler-this is a good way to use up stubs of candles or crayons. Dip the wood into the wax and let it cool, repeating several times. Each time you dip, say:

"Power of summer, power of sun,
Power of fire, my spell's begun.
Into the wax and into the wood,
So it will kindle, just as it should."
