The Day of the Holy Book

Color of the day:  Yellow
Incense of the day:  Marigold

Today is Shavuot, the Jewish festival that commemorates the delivery of their holy book, the Torah, to the Hebrew tribes at Mount Sinai. It also signals the grain harvest. We Pagans are not cultural pirates; we don't steal other people's rituals. But we can share their remembrance by creating rituals of our own with similar intentions.

Let us therefore look at books we consider holy in a practical sense. We've all been given books or come upon books that changed our lives. Or maybe they "flew" off shelves and landed in our hands. Maybe the book introduced us to the Goddess, maybe it gives Neopagan practices, maybe it's historical, or maybe it's a modern novel.

Bring your covenmates together today, all with their own "holy books." Give thanks to the authors of the books, then read a few specially meaningful paragraphs aloud to each other. What did you "harvest" from your book?
