A Kitchen Blessing Spell

Color of the day:  Black
Incense of the day:  Ginger

In England, this day is known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday. It’s the time of feasting before the Lenten sacrifices. Flat, crepe-like pancakes with fresh lemon juice and sprinkled sugar are eaten. This spell blesses the place where food is prepared and where people often gather together.

You’ll need a new broom (I like an old-fashioned corn broom for this, but any broom will do), lavender oil, and salt. In the morning, rub lavender oil where the whisks of the broom join the handle, and say:

I anoint thee with oil that
thy work may be blessed.

After the evening meal, sprinkle salt on the kitchen floor. Use the new broom to sweep it up. (If you have a carpet, put down a mat and sprinkle salt onto that.) As you sweep, say:

To purify and provide, so mote it be.

Gather the salt that has been swept and place it outside the main entrance. The kitchen has been blessed.
