1. Your new book, The Secret of Your Immortal Self, presents a path for readers to achieve union with their immortal self. How would you define this "Immortal Self?" 2. Why is it important for us to strengthen our bond with the Divine and our immortal self? 3. Your previous books, including the bestselling Secret of Letting Go, have focused on letting go of the negativity in our lives. Does this process also play a role in our contact with our Immortal Self? Most certainly; even a moment's investigation into the real source of negative states, and the part of us held captive by them, will prove the value of making contact with what is Divine within us. It's impossible to become negative without first resisting the event–or that person–seen as responsible for our pain. But, if we could see clearly the whole of such moments when we suffer in this way, here's what we would realize: the pain we're feeling isn't because of the event itself, but rather is produced by our resistance to what our own mind is telling us the event means. In other words, an unconscious part of us projects a terrible outcome–that, in truth, has yet to happen–and then goes about opposing what it has imagined in the darkness of itself. Now, add to this last idea the light of the following fact, and you'll see how natural and effortless it becomes to let go of negative states. It's impossible to resist any given moment–that is to say, when the teacher appears with a lesson we need–and learn that lesson at the same time. To grow we must learn to let go of any part of us that believes Real Life can act against us. The more firmly we are rooted in this Divine understanding–that only the Immortal Self can see as being true–the freer we are…not just of negative states, but of all forms of unconscious, unnecessary suffering. 4. You've been writing and speaking about topics of happiness, self-liberation, and divinity for decades. How did you come to this path? In truth, I didn't really come to this path…as much as it came to me at a very early age. If there is any difference at all to be noted in why one chooses to walk this upward trending path, versus some other path through life, I think it would be this: The world that we now live in not only knows almost nothing about the pain that permeates it, but is actually dedicated–socially, culturally, even religiously–to its avoidance. Most of us run around seeking consolation for stressful conditions outside of ourselves, never seeking to understand the consciousness responsible for the conflict and fears that drive us down these dead ends in life, as they so often turn out to be. Somehow, something within me–no doubt, some spark of the Immortal Self–could not be satisfied with the standard solutions to this suffering. So, in a word, I owe whatever has become profitable within me to a kind of pain that I was never able to put…and keep away. 5. What do you hope readers take away from The Secret of Your Immortal Self? Let me offer four promises. First, the remembrance that already living within us is a Divine spark…what I have called in my new book, the "Immortal Self." Second, in the awakening of this forgotten part of us, the gift of a perfect fearlessness in the face of whatever the river of time delivers to our door. How is that possible? Because, and third, in the realization of our own true and Timeless Self is found the greatest secret on earth: death is not the end of life. Last, and as an encouragement to all who seek the Divinity within, this promise of a new kind of faith that, once seen as being fact, can never be shaken: all things good come to those for whom the Good is all things. |
