One of the most adaptable materials and practices in magic is the use of magical powders. Magical powders can be used by themselves in a spell by being sprinkled or dusted around an area, rubbed onto or around a candle, and used as a filling in container magic.
When it comes to magical powders, there are two main types. The first type you have is working with individual materials as magical powders. This is where you find materials like pollen, dirt, termite remains, ground shells, etc. The second type of magical powders are those of blended formulas. Blended magical powders, like witches' salts, hot foot powder, and sweetening powders, are the most common and well-known types of blended magical powders.
Naturally Found and Wildcrafted Magical Powders The most powerful magical powders are those that you can find naturally or take minimal effort with which to dry and create a powder. There are some materials, such as flower pollen, crushed shells, dirt, and decayed woody plants, that have a natural powder-like consistency. That natural consistency makes them natural magical powders. To use these powders, all you have to do is gather the materials and empower them.
Here are a few examples of materials that can be found in nature, in your garden, or in the kitchen and used as a magical powder. Remember, when gathering these natural curios, take only what you need, and no animal life should be harmed while you are trying to gather these materials.

Simple Single Powder Spells Now that you have an idea as to several common materials used in magical powders, it's time to explore how a single powder can be used effectively as its own magical spell or used in combination with other magical tools to boost other spells. When it comes to magic using simple powders, the simpler the spell, the more effective the magic will be.
The first spell is a door-opening spell, bringing in new opportunities and overcoming obstacles in your path. The second spell is a simple and effective money charm, to ensure that there is always money in your wallet.
Discarded Wasp's Nest Road-Opener Spell Sometimes obstacles develop in our lives, and moving forward can seem impossible. The following spell helps you overcome obstacles and move forward with new opportunities.
Materials:
- Sturdy stick with a point
- Discarded wasp's nest
Working: 1. Go outside and grab a sturdy stick with a good point. 2. Use the stick to draw a lock and key in the dirt. While you draw the lock and key, think about a long-standing obstacle in your life. 3. When the drawing is complete, begin to crumble up and sprinkle the remains of a discarded wasp's nest over the drawing you made. As you sprinkle the discarded wasp den remains, state that the obstacle be gone. 4. When all the remains have been sprinkled over the drawing, stomp on the drawing, directing anger and frustration at the obstacle into the dirt. 5. Next, use your shoes to wipe away the image. As you wipe away the image in the dirt, know that you are leaving that obstacle in your past. 6. Walk away and return to your daily life. This act is symbolic of leaving that obstacle in the past.

Once the bill has had the chamomile powder sprinkled thoroughly over it, fold the bill in half towards you. 4. Rotate the folded bill towards you and fold again. Repeat rotating and folding the bill two more times. 5. Carry the folded bill in your purse, wallet, money clip, or pouch to bring luck, success, wealth, and prosperity in your life. 6. To keep the charm charged, remove the folded bill from where you carry it and sprinkle a fresh layer of chamomile powder over it once a month.
Magical Powder Blends The only way that magical powders can be more effective than when used alone is when ingredients are combined into powder blends and formulas. In magical powder blends, each of the materials plays off of each other, empowering one another. This means that all the energy is blended to create one new cohesive, energetic whole.
Making Simple and Effective Magical Powders The process of crafting effective magical powders is simple and requires very few tools. Many materials can be readily purchased in a powdered form. To craft an effective magical powder, all you need are the components or ingredients along with a mixing bowl or a mortar and pestle. If you are going to be storing your powder to use later, then you will need both some sort of storage container like a small, sealed bag or bottle and a label for the powder.
Like with all magical work, the first step is deciding what the goal of magical powder is going to be. Once you have decided the intent or goal behind the powder, your next step is to choose your ingredients to match the overall goal. (This is why it's important to study and understand magical correspondences.)
Activating, or telling the energy of the materials what they are being used for, is the third step in the process. Simply add the material to the bowl or mortar and pestle and state why you choose that material. Once you activate the energy within the materials, the energy can be pulled and shaped.
You need the energy of each material activated so that you can combine all the various energetic forces together into one new whole. This is where grinding and mixing the materials comes into play. As you grind and mix the materials, focus on the goal and intent to create one final energetic force.
When it comes to magical powders, people typically think of things like the various colored witches' salts, sweetening powders, and hot foot powder. There are so many more types of magical powders beyond these! Edible magical powders can event be a wonderful way to add a magical punch to the flavors of your food.
Magical Powder Formulas and Simple Spells The following three formulas each illustrate a different type of magical powder. You will find a protection salt; a sweetening powder; and a money, sales, and prosperity blend that can be used either as a sweep or a wash.
