Color of the day: Rose
Incense of the day: Mint The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded on this day in 1866, and it's a perfect day to honor creatures of fur, fin, hoof, and wing. Create a small outdoor altar made of found objects. Include some animal food and water on the altar. Bring feathers and other animal objects you may have. Sit before your altar and go into a light meditative state. Find yourself in a wild outdoor place. Take in the details of the area. In the north, you see a strong woman seated on a large rock surrounded by the animals of the world. You know this is the Great Lady of the Beasts. Go before her and kneel. As you look into her face, you see the animals shift in her visage. Place a bowl of water at her feet and say, "May they never thirst." Place a bowl of food at her feet and say, "May they never hunger." Place leaves and grass at her feet and say, "May they always live life according to their nature," and then a rock, saying, "May they always be protected from cruelty." She accepts these gifts and blessings with thanks. She raises you to your feet, kisses you on both cheeks, and honors you as one of her creatures. In a twinkling of an eye, she is gone. Take a deep breath and return to the here and now. |
