Volturnalia is the Roman festival celebrating Volturnus, god of fountains and flowing waters. He was originally a tribal river god, and the Volturnus River in southern Italy is named for him. Do a spell today calling on Volturnus to wash away something that is troubling you. You will need a piece of white cloth, an eyeliner pencil or piece of colored chalk, a basin full of water, and some baking soda. Create your sacred space and focus on what you wish to wash away. Draw a symbol of it on the cloth. Hold it in both hands and say:
Flowing, rushing, cleansing Volturnus take ______ from me Wash away, wash away, wash away Now I am free. Submerge the cloth in the basin and use the baking soda to scrub the cloth clean (continue chanting while you scrub if you like). Leave the cloth to dry and pour the water into running water. Draw a representation of yourself on the dry cloth as free of your affliction to carry as a talisman. |
