First Day of the Great Eleusinian Mysteries
Have you been through trials and ordeals, but still chosen the spiritual path? Then you are an initiate, one who accepts the paradoxical truth that order and chaos, creation and destruction, the One and the many, simultaneously make up this divine reality. Take a moment today for a simple visualization. Imagine yourself in an open, natural setting. Slowly, throngs of people begin to appear on the horizon. As they approach, you begin to see faces, and you recognize sister and brother spiritual seekers. Other faces you have yet to know, but you intuit that they too are part of your clan wave, your sacred lineage. You welcome them to circle with you, and you are greeted with smiles of recognition. Take in the warmth of the moment, knowing that today, you have encountered the fullness of those who stand with you on the road less traveled. Holiday lore: Keirou no Hi, or Respect for the Aged Day, has been a national holiday in Japan since 1966. On this day, the Japanese show respect to elderly citizens, celebrate their longevity, and pray for their health. Although there are no traditional customs specifically associated with this day, cultural programs are usually held in various communities. Schoolchildren draw pictures or make handicraft gifts for their grandparents and elderly family friends or neighbors. Some groups visit retirement or nursing homes to present gifts to residents. |
