The Greek god Hermes is associated with safe travels, good fortune, and work. One of the ways his blessings were bestowed was with a laurel branch dipped in water. Laurel is a common tree, but if you can’t find one, use bay leaves. They can be found in the spice section of most markets. For this blessing you will need a vehicle, some incense, a lighter, a laurel (bay) branch, and a bowl of water. Stand before the vehicle and light the incense. Cleanse yourself and the vehicle with the smoke. Dip the branch in the water. Say: Hermes, great god of travel and luck, I call upon you with reverence in my heart. I ask you to bless this vehicle with safety and good fortune. Allow the water to drip upon the vehicle. Continue until the water is gone. When done, lay the branch in a natural place. Say: Hermes, a gift for you, and a humble thanks for your blessings. |
