Eating cabbage on New Year's Day will bring you luck in the coming year. Try this family recipe for Lucky Sauerkraut and see how your new year goes. You'll need one jar of sauerkraut, 1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed, and 1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seed. Dump the sauerkraut into a saucepan and, using a low-medium heat, bring to a boil. Add the brown sugar and caraway seeds. Stir to thoroughly mix together, envisioning luck for the entire year. For best results, serve with the pork or ham dish of your choice. Cabbage is one of the fastest growing vegetables in the garden, making it plentiful as well as lucky. Caraway seeds also represent plenty and prosperity. Have a healthy, lucky New Year!
