Spell: Honor Local Traditions

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Many Pagans and Witches have adopted practices that were and are traditional for the Native American Indians, such as smudging, drumming, and totem animals. But there is a fine line to walk between honoring and appropriating. It does well to remember that many Native American Indians today live on reservations with substandard houseing, poor helath care, and limited education, fearing their culture is disappearing. Do some research today into what tribe once lived (or still lives) in your area. If the tribe is still present, find a way to contribute to the preservation of their culture - perhaps their tribe has a museum you can visit where you can make a donation. Find a way to tell the spirits passed how grateful you are for what their culutre has given you.
