Yule is the shortest day of the year and marks the rebirth of the sun. It is a time for friends and family to gather together and celebrate the sun's return. A special treat you can make for them is a yule log cake. These are fairly easy to concoct, and you can mix in a little magick from the kitchen as well!
Early in the morning, to welcome the sun, gather your ingredients to make a simple sponge cake. Then bake it, and once cooled, spread a layer of cream or hazelnut filling onto the cake. Roll up the sponge into a log. Once you have arranged the log on the serving plate, it's time to frost it with chocolate frosting. You can sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar to simulate snow, create marzipan mushrooms, or decorate with mint and cranberries to simulate holly. No matter how you slice it, your family will appreciate the extra effort you went through to make the day special! |
