Today is the final day of the Roman festival Lupercalia, an ancient spring-cleaning event conducted to help avert evil in the coming season and to unlock the powers of abundance and fertility in the earth. This festival was and still is honored both in cities and rural homes all throughout the Western world.
This home blessing should be done after a home cleansing and requires only a bell. At dusk, stand at the center of your home, face the west, and ring the bell three times. Say: "By Lupercus, Faunus, and Pan, I banish the old energy of yesteryear and winter!" Then face the east, ring the bell three times, and say: "By Lupercus, Faunus, and Pan, I invite riches and the abundance of spring!" While ringing the bell and fumigating the rest of your home, move through each room chanting the second line until each room has been blessed. |
