Spell: Witch Bottle

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Witch bottles are wonderful protective charms with centuries of historical use. They're not only powerful, but also easy to make.

You'll need a small glass jar with a tight lid, some wine or mead, a black candle, matches, and several of the following items: tacks, bent pins, or small nails; pieces of obsidian; sea salt; bits of black wax; a red ribbon; very small pieces of broken glass or pottery (handle carefully!); cleaned bones from a roast chicken; bits of fur or feather; and sprigs of fresh rosemary. Each of these has protection, purification, or grounding properties.

Place your chosen items in the jar, then fill it with the wine or mead. (In centuries past, witch jars were filled with the spellcaster's urine. If you're adventurous, go for it!) Screw the lid on tight and seal with drips of black candle wax.

Traditionally witch bottles are buried on your property, ideally at the new (dark) moon. Or place them within your home for inside protection.
