Spell: For Establishing Boundaries

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Here is a smoke-based ritual for establishing a magical boundary around yourself. You will need:

  • 1 part dogwood bark (Cornus florida), dried
  • ½ part holly tree bark (Ilex spp.), dried
  • 1 part mullein leaf (Verbascum thapsus), dried
  • ½ part Solomon's seal root (Polygonatum spp.), dried
  • 1 part sweetgum resin or bark (Liquidambar styraciflua, often called storax or American storax), dried
  • Mortar and pestle
  • Incense charcoal and burner (that can be held)
  • Matches or lighter

Mix all the plant ingredients together and lightly crush in the mortar and pestle. Go outside at midnight. Light your charcoal and place it in your burner. Hold in your right hand (make sure it's a handheld burner that won't burn you). Add your incense mixture and face the east. Say:

In the east, a mountain.

Then turn clockwise to the west and say:

In the west, a mountain.

Turn clockwise to the south and say:

In the south, a mountain.

Turn clockwise to the north and say:

In the north, a mountain.

Then turn clockwise to the east and say:

A mountain on all sides. No evil

can cross them. No sicknesses can

cross them. (Name of enemy or

target) cannot cross them, even if

(he/she/they) had all the power in

all the world! Stand firm, until the

foundations of the earth fall away.

Let the incense burn out naturally, then return home.
