Spell: Protection Spell

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: Orange
Incense of the day: Eucalyptus

Traditionally on this day, known as Three Kings, a spell of protection was performed in the home to insure safety for those who dwelled within. Dried herbs were blessed and burned in the name of the Three Kings or Magi-Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar-and holy water was sprinkled at the doorways. With a piece of chalk the initials CMB were inscribed over the doorway along with the current year. The master of the house would then say: "Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar, protect us this year from the dangers of fire and water." Adapting this ritual for present day Pagans, invoke the Three Kings or pick three of your favorite gods and/or goddesses to protect your home. Inscribe their names or initials on a wooden plaque along with the year, 2008. Burn frankincense and myrrh in a gold bowl at your altar, as these were the gifts of the three Magi. Gold will draw the light of the Sun and invoke wealth, vitality, and joy. Frankincense and myrrh have similar magical properties of purification, banishing negativity. Sprinkle consecrated salt water around your entranceway and hang the plaque above your door to protect your house for the coming year.
