This is World Habitat Day. Consider the state of human habitat-urban, suburban, and rural-as well as wildlife habitat. Do people in your area have adequate shelter? Do animals have space to live too? What areas allow humans and wildlife to share the space safely?
Take responsibility for helping maintain the habitat in your area. You might volunteer at Habitat for Humanity or in a city park. If you have a yard, offer suitable food, water, and nesting sites for wildlife. Include a statue of any deity associated with plants or animals. Here is a prayer for habitat: May all the green-growing ones Have earth and sunlight and water. May all the running and crawling ones Have food to eat and nests to sleep. May all the two-legged ones Have a place to call their own. May we all live in harmony, And learn to share the Earth. |
