The New Moon in May is an auspicious time to wish for growth and prosperity. May is considered the real beginning of the growing season; spells cast during a May New Moon take on special power.
Begin by gathering some green grasses, weeds, or flower stems. Bind them with garden twine and shape them to resemble a human figure. Tuck a few leaves, pieces of bark, or flowers into the figure, which may represent your wish. Lay the grass figure on your altar and surround it with symbols of the four elements. Light a green candle for fire, sprinkle some peat moss or soil for earth. Burn some incense to represent air, and a bowl of spring water. Think of your wish and pass your power hand over the figure, then form the shape of a pentagram above the figure. At noon, the solar hour, carry your figure to a stream or river and release it. See your spell growing and being carried to fulfillment by the flowing water. At the Full Moon, scry into a bowl or cauldron filled with water to check the status of your spell. |
