Today is Mercuralia, a Roman celebration meaning "Festival of Mercury." The god Mercury oversees merchants, commerce, and travel. Traditionally, Roman merchants would sprinkle themselves, their merchandise, and their ships with water taken from Mercury's sacred well in Porta Capena.
Honor Mercury today by taking care of your business. Place ten silver coins in a bowl of water and ask Mercury to bless the water. Use this in your bath or shower. Also wash your car, your desk, your work tools, and anything else you associate with your career. As you do these things, chant: Swift planet Swift wealth Strong planet Strong health Mercury See me Mercury Bless me At the end of the day, pour the water in front of your threshold (NOT down a drain!) and thank Mercury for his blessings. Donate the coins to charity. |
