Spell: Remembrance Day

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

In the United States, today is a day many still recall with shock and horrow, for the bombing of Pearl Harbor came as quite a surprise.
As magic workers, we may use the events of history to gain knowledge of human nature and the ways we engage our fears, attachement, pains, and joys. Knowing this, we may perhaps make better choices, lead lives more in tune with our soul's purpose. Today, take stock of your reactions to events and people, noticing your tendencies and patterns. Pause to honor those you have inadvertently hurt or disappointed in the past, and rededicate yourself to the project of spiritual awakening. To seal this commitment, blend together cinnamon and honey, close your eyes, and taste the nectar. Finish by offering some rolled in a small piece of white cloth beneath a tree to sweeten your future impacts and outcomes.

Holiday lore:

Cultures around the world have shared a penchant for the ritual burning of scapegoats, enemies, and devils. There's something primal about the roar of a large bonfire and its ability to bring purging light to a community. Today is such a day in the highland towns of Guatemala. Men dress in devil costumes during the season leading up to Christmas, and children chase the men thought the streets. On December 7, people light bonfires in front of their homes, and into the fires they toss garbage and other debris to purify their lives. At night, fireworks fill the air.
