Today is the feast day of Saint Brigid, a goddess turned saint. She presides over many areas, including the arts, smithcraft, midwifery, and the hearth and home. She is also well known as a shapeshifter and appears in the form most appropriate for her followers.
To honor Brigid on this day, gather paper or a sketch pad, a pencil, and a candle, and proceed to your hearth or home altar. Light the candle on your altar or hearth in Brigid's honor, and invoke her in accordance with your tradition. When you feel her presence, see her in your mind's eye. Sketch how she appears to you. Don't worry about your artistic skills-what is important is your act of devotion. When finished, you can place the personalized image you created of Brigid upon your altar as both an icon and an offering. So mote it be! |
