The energy of the earth slows during the winter months, even in the places where it stays relatively warm, although it might be less obvious there. Our ancestors slowed down with the season, as the days grew shorter and there were no crops to tend. They had no electric lights or television, so they went to bed early or told stories by the fire. These days it is harder to slow down, so use this simple meditation to help you remember to go with the naturally slower flow of the winter. Start by lighting a white candle and taking deep, slow breaths as you say this to yourself, either silently or aloud:
"It is winter, and the world is quiet. I will be quiet too And slow my pace to match that of the earth. Quiet and slow, slow and quiet, Breathing in, breathing out, Slowly." |
