Spell: Setsubun Spell

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: Pink
Incense of the day: Thyme

The noisy, joyous Japanese holiday than ends winter and opens spring, Setsubun is the day that falls between one season and the other. While many traditions are associated with Setsubun, one of the most loved traditions is the mame maki ritual performed to cast out evil demons from the home and to promote good fortune for the household. During the ritual, the head of the household walks from room to room, scattering handfuls of roasted soybeans as all shout: "Oni wa soto. Fuki wa uchi!" (Out with the ogre. In with happiness!) Everyone in the household then eats one bean for each year of their age in order to bring personal good luck. Try the mame maki ritual at home to bring in your own good luck and to kick out any lingering ogres and demons.
